Bishop Richard Greco
Bishop of the Diocese of Charlottetown
Bishop Grecco was installed as our thirteenth bishop on September 21, 2009 in St. Dunstan’s Basilica in the presence of the Metropolitan, Archbishop Mancini of Halifax, sixteen other bishops, sixty priests and a church filled with laity.
Born in 1946, our future bishop lived his earlier years in Holy Rosary Parish, Thorold, Ontario, within the Archdiocese of Toronto. In 1958 this area became part of the new Diocese of St. Catharines. Ordained to the priesthood in 1973 for service in the Diocese of St. Catharines, Father Grecco served in a wide range of ministries both within his own diocese and beyond. His last major appointments were as Auxiliary Bishop of London (1998-2002) and as Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto (2001-2009).
Fr. Floyd Gallant
Fr. Floyd Gallant was named Rector of St. Dunstan’s Basilica in August, 2010. He attended St. Paul’s Seminary and University, Ottawa, ON, graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor of Theology degree. Subsequent studies at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana, earned him a M.A. in Theology (liturgical studies) in 1989.
Ordained for the Diocese of Charlottetown in November, 1982, Fr. Gallant has served as pastor of various parishes throughout the diocese as well as on various diocesan and national councils.
Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, Leo's music training started at St. Michael's Choir School, eventually earning performance degrees through the Royal Canadian College of Organists, the Western Conservatory of London, Ontario, the Royal Conservatory of Music, as well as degrees in composition through the University of Toronto, and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Leo is not only music director for the Basilica, but he serves as music supervisor for the Diocese of Charlottetown, as well as an Atlantic representative for the National Council for Liturgical Music, and chair for the National Hymnal Committee. He is conductor of the Strathgartney Chamber Orchestra, accompanist for the UPEI Concert Choir, and can often be seen performing in various concert and theatre projects throughout the Island.
Director of Catechetics
Pat Wiedemer started working as the Director of Religious Education at St. Dunstan´s parish in September 2016. She brings with her over 20 years of experience in this ministry and holds a Master´s Degree in Catholic Theology and a Vatican Recognized Catechetical Diploma.
